The iconography, first and foremost, is in direct correlation with TAOS town imagery affiliation combined with American pride.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• The last time there was a major American birthday July 4th was for the 200 years anniversary in 1976. Even though the poster artists from the late 60's, I wanted to create artwork with a very hand drawn that has the retro vibe in honor of the Fillmore artists, especially one of my art heroes, Rick Griffin - 1976 was the year that he held his first solo exhibition at the Roundhouse in London. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• In honor of Rick Griffin, there are two images that I have drawn in his style - the sun and the JULY 4th shield.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• Top scroll (Griffin style) - \u003cb\u003e'Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Music'\u003c\/b\u003e is a satirical version that I think is great for The Mavericks on this celebratory day. I think this is especially fitting in the memory of RM - a man who lived, walked and breathed music!\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• The American Eagle is surrounded by stars with the New Mexico symbol branded into the sun. The eagle is clutching my version of the TAOS seal which is a combination of elements from the Taos Pueblo (pueblos with mountains behind) , the New Mexico (depicts and eagle) and the Taos County emblem (border)\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• Below the eagle is the Native American arrow bag that is on the Pueblo seal.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• 2 feathers and a dream catcher hang from the American flag on both sides of artwork.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv data-setdir=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\"\u003e• The bottom scroll reads 'SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY'. The line comes from the American song MY COUNTRY, 'TIS OF THEE\u003cb\u003e. \u003c\/b\u003eIn these incredibly divided times, I thought incorporating a line from the song seems really appropriate. I think Raul would have liked this. It's a patriotic song and the third verse is one that all Americans should remember in these times.
